Recipe Showcase: Soft Pretzels with a Twist

Celebrate National Pretzel Day with our mouthwatering Soft Pretzel recipe! These homemade pretzels are soft, chewy, and irresistibly delicious, perfect for snacking or sharing with friends and family.

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt, for topping (optional)

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Gradually add flour to the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic.

  3. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and roll each portion into a rope. Twist each rope into a pretzel shape and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add baking soda and stir until dissolved. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place back on the baking sheet.

  5. Brush them with beaten egg and sprinkle with salt. Add coarse sea salt for extra flavor, if desired.

  6. Bake them in a preheated oven at 425°F for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. Allow the pretzels to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite dipping sauces or mustard.
